T union takes aim at outsourcing plan affecting 165 jobs

BOSTON – The MBTA's plans for a dramatic reduction in its business-side workforce through outsourcing of cash handling and fare gates generated a forceful rebuttal from transit union leaders on Wednesday.

"A big part of this is to improve performance," Brian Shortsleeve, the T's chief administrator, told reporters. He said there are 165 employees in the money room in Charlestown's Sullivan Square, and 37 are eligible to retire.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Carly Fiorina dropped out of the 2016 Republican presidential race Wednesday, following a dismal finish in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday.

The former Hewlett Packard chief executive announced to her followers on Twitter.com that she is suspending her campaign. She had won praise for her debate prowess but struggled to build a winning coalition in a crowded GOP field.
