GRAND-BASSAM, Ivory Coast (AP) — Survivors of the first attack by Islamic extremists in Ivory Coast described scenes of confusion and fear as the jihadists gunned down defenseless civilians at a beachfront resort area. The attack left 16 dead.

STATE HOUSE — Speaking to advocates visiting Beacon Hill to promote cancer prevention, Massachusetts Public Health Commissioner Monica Bharel said Thursday that more needs to be done prevent young people from using tobacco, but stopped short of endorsing a bill that calls for raising the tobacco purchasing age in Massachusetts from 18 to 21.
Bharel spoke after a several lawmakers, including Sen. Jason Lewis and Rep. Kate Hogan, – co-chairs of the Joint Committee on Public Health – touted a bill (S 2152) recommended by their panel last week and sent to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.
