State Needs To Build More Shelters For Illegal Immigrants, Pro-Immigration Group Says

The Massachusetts state government needs to build more shelters to house migrants, a pro-immigration group said.

Governor Maura Healey said Monday, October 16 that Massachusetts may run out of space in shelters by the end of October because of a sharp increase in migrants. Healey has also recent;y stopped saying that the state will guarantee shelters for migrants, which an existing state law requires.

Most House Democrats lined up Wednesday in support of a major overhaul of the state's firearms laws, easily hurdling over procedural complaints and sending the Senate a measure that has generated incendiary criticism from gun owners and promises from supporters that it will save lives.

The House voted 120-38 on wide-ranging legislation (H 4135) that prohibits firearms in some public spaces, expands the state's "red flag" law, seeks to crack down on the spread of ghost guns with new registration requirements, updates the statewide ban on assault weapons, and streamlines the licensing process.
