Several Republicans insist: U.S. government officials must avoid Castro’s funeral

CNSNews.com) – Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are among the Republicans urging the Obama administration to steer clear of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro's funeral.

"It's going to be an interesting test just in the next few days," Cruz told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday. "I very much hope that we don't see any U.S. government officials going to Fidel Castro's funeral. I hope we don't see Barack Obama and Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton and Democrats lining up to lionize a murderous tyrant and thug.

HAVANA (AP) — Fidel Castro, who led his bearded rebels to victorious revolution in 1959, embraced Soviet-style communism and defied the power of 10 U.S. presidents during his half-century of rule in Cuba, has died at age 90.

With a shaking voice, President Raul Castro said on state television that his older brother died at 10:29 p.m. Friday. He ended the announcement by shouting the revolutionary slogan: "Toward victory, always!"
