Rep: Chaotic formals finish ‘typical Beacon Hill’

Gov. Charlie Baker and Democratic legislative leaders have been holding near-daily bill signings, crowding together to tout the major laws they agreed to over the past two weeks. But the bipartisan glee over passage of five of the "big six" bills identified by Baker is not universal.

While describing energy diversification legislation calling for hydropower as "really positive" and a "solid bill," Republican Rep. Marc Lombardo of Billerica in a radio interview this week ripped the way House and Senate leaders sprung major bills on members during a late-night session July 31 that spilled over into the early morning of Aug. 1.

President Barack Obama is interrupting what so far has been a leisurely vacation to campaign and help raise money for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee. Obama has said there's never been anyone more qualified than Clinton, who was his rival in the 2008 presidential contest and his first-term secretary of state, to be president.
