BOSTON — Calls continued Thursday for former Massachusetts Senate President Stanley Rosenberg to resign after the release of a report Wednesday detailing what investigators described as a "significant failure of judgment and leadership" in connection with allegations against his civil-law husband.

A veteran police officer in the western Massachusetts town of Hadley is apologizing for posting a comment on his police department's Facebook page suggesting that two black customers getting arrested at a Starbucks after refusing to leave isn't as important as two sheriff's deputies getting shot to death while eating at a restaurant.

Sergeant Kenneth Hartwright spoke in front of about a dozen people at a community meeting called to discuss what he called a "very shortsighted and insensitive" comment, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
