Pot campaign knocked for fundraising appeal that cited opioid overdoses

STATE HOUSE — A fundraising appeal from the marijuana legalization campaign has drawn the ire of health care professionals and parents of children who died from opioid addiction after the group pitched legal marijuana as an alternative to prescription pain drugs in spite of the state's medical marijuana program.

Will Luzier, the campaign manager for the Yes on 4 ballot drive, sent an email to supporters on Monday highlighting the latest opioid overdose-related death statistics that he said could make 2016 "the deadliest year for opioid overdoses in our state's history."

Protesters fear new OT policy will threaten access to care

STATE HOUSE — With new regulations on overtime for personal care attendants now in effect, advocates gathered outside Gov. Charlie Baker's office Thursday to protest the changes they said could make it harder for people with disabilities to live independently.

Thursday marked the beginning of an eight-week transition period for MassHealth's new personal care attendant overtime management policy. According to the Disability Policy Consortium, the policy will cap the number of hours that PCAs can work at 40 hours per week, with some exceptions up to 60 hours a week.
