Suspect in Auburn police officer’s slaying dies in shootout

AUBURN, Mass. (AP) — The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts police officer died after an exchange of gunfire Sunday as authorities closed in on him inside an apartment in nearby Oxford, police said.

The man, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Zambrano, burst out of a closet and opened fire on the officers as they approached him inside the apartment, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news briefing Sunday evening. Zambrano, who authorities said had a criminal history, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

BOSTON – The Boston Public Library Board of Trustees over the weekend voted to offer the job of president of the library to Jill Bourne, city librarian in San Jose, California, since 2013.

Bourne was deputy city librarian in San Francisco from 2006 until 2013. The San Jose system includes 23 branch libraries and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, operated with San José State University. Prior to working in San Francisco, Bourne worked for over nine years with the Seattle Public Library.
