Partnership between The Ride and Uber coming for paratransit passengers

BOSTON — As the MBTA looks to cut costs and improve service, a state transportation official on Monday said the T could save as much as $47 million a year on The Ride program by raising fares, reducing service and forging partnerships with the taxi industry and companies like Uber and Lyft.

Michael Lambert, MassDOT's deputy administrator for transit, told the MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board that The Ride — which provides 2.1 million trips each year for people with disabilities and cost $97 million to operate last year — must make changes or its cost will jump to $108 million in fiscal year 2017.

BOSTON – With growth in economic activity and jobs projected to exceed state averages over the next few years, the Massachusetts capital likely will continue to attract new residents and hold on to a significant portion of the more than 150,000 students who flock to the Athens of America each year.

So figuring out where many of these new permanent residents would prefer to live, based on criteria such as amenities, home prices and getting to and from work can be important. To that end, a real estate industry group, the Urban Land Institute, commissioned a survey to determine what young professionals look for in a workplace and in a place to live.
