New Boston Police Commissioner Placed On Leave Amid Past Domestic Violence Allegations

The city of Boston got a new police commissioner on Monday, and he's already on leave.

William Gross retired Friday, January 29 and announced around the same time that he won't run for mayor to succeed apparently outgoing Marty Walsh, who is the U.S. Labor secretary nominee. Gross's successor, Dennis White, is already on leave as of Wednesday, February 3 over what Mayor Walsh called "disturbing issues", as NBC Boston reports. That means he was on the job for two days before being placed on leave.

The War on Drugs just got a little smaller in Cambridge, Massachusetts this week.

On Monday, the city council voted 8-1 in favor of making arrests for entheogenic plants "amongst the lowest law enforcement priority" and calling on the Middlesex County District Attorney to stop prosecutions regarding such hallucinogens. As a result, the measure all but decriminalizes mushrooms, cacti, and ayahuasca in the city.
