Elected officials and candidates this cycle are steering money to committees supporting and opposing ballot questions, according to state filings.
In August, Republican gubernatorial nominee Mike Minogue donated $5,000 to The Civil Rights Coalition, which is backing Question 9 to repeal the 2024 gun regulation law.
Other Republican candidates and electeds donated to the same committee: Baker administration official Mike Kennealy gave $1,041.98 in December; Rep. John Gaskey donated $104.48 in August 2025 and another $52.40 in February; Micah Jones, running for the 6th District Congressional seat, gave $104.48 in February 2025; Timothy Shea, a candidate for the Middlesex and Worcester District Senate seat donated $104.48 in June; and Ted Semesnyei, a candidate for the Second Essex & Middlesex District Senate seat, donated $52.40 in December.
Donors to YES for A Safe Massachusetts committee against the gun law repeal (a yes vote in November would keep the gun law), include Ravi Simon, a Democrat running for the 13th Middlesex District House seat that Rep. Carmine Gentile is vacating. Simon, former staffer for Gentile, donated $15 in June.
