Asked whether she'll be endorsing Gov. Maura Healey for reelection this cycle, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said she has worked well with the governor, but stopped there.
"I am not at all going to be involved with the candidates who have come out on the Republican side, some of whom I've never met before — I'm not even sure that they've ever been in Boston, except over a helicopter," Wu said at a downtown Boston event hosted by the News Service and MASSterList on June 24. "But I have not been asked to endorse or get involved, and so I'm not jumping into something that they're not needing [me] to be involved in."
Pressed by political analyst Jon Keller on whether her and Healey's relationship has "a little frost" on it, Wu pushed back.
"I speak with the governor frequently. We've worked hand-in-hand on certainly the World Cup and other issues, and I leave it to every candidate to decide. Sometimes I'm a liability, and I understand that in terms of a political endorsement."
Wu has endorsed in races closer to her home, including Latoya Gayle's bid to unseat South Boston Democrat Sen. Nick Collins and Daniel Lander's effort to topple Senate President Pro Tempore Will Brownsberger of Belmont, who represents a small part of Boston.
On Feb. 23, she endorsed in a statewide race, backing U.S. Sen. Ed Markey for reelection. Markey, Gayle and Lander are in contested primaries while Healey is running unopposed in the primary
