McMullin qualifies as presidential write-in candidate

Evan McMullin, a former CIA operative heading a long-shot bid for the presidency as a conservative alternative to Republican Donald Trump, will be able to pick up Bay State votes in November though he will not appear on the ballot.

A spokesman for Secretary of State William Galvin told the News Service that on Friday, McMullin's campaign filed a slate of 11 electors with Galvin's office to make McMullin a write-in candidate.

Energy, interior chiefs talk up offshore wind power plans

BOSTON — Unveiled in Charlestown on Friday, an updated federal strategy for offshore wind development aims to develop 86,000 megawatts of power across the United States by 2050, support 160,000 jobs, and address 30 specific challenges facing the growing industry.

The strategy is in keeping with the thrust of a new Massachusetts law designed to procure 1,600 megawatts of offshore wind power here, primarily in the waters south of Martha's Vineyard where energy companies have leased development rights from the federal government.
