The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education gave the state's Education Commissioner the authority to implement a mask mandate at all public schools in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on Tuesday.
The board voted 9-1 on Tuesday, August 24 to give commissioner Jeff Riley that authority, as WBUR reports. Riley supports a mask mandate. He wants a universal mandate through October 1. After that, he wants to lift the mandate for vaccinated individuals in schools where at least 80 percent of students and staff are vaccinated for coronavirus.
