Congressman Joe Kennedy III is setting a partisan edge as August dawns. In a fundraising email circulated on Sunday, Kennedy starts off, "There's no turning back. Love it or hate it, the political season has arrived and the 2016 campaign is well underway. Plenty of wild ideas are already surfacing from some of the leading presidential candidates – like 'phasing out' Medicare, repealing the Affordable Care Act, and rounding up millions of immigrant families for deportation. These extreme positions might grab headlines, but they'll only deepen the divisions in our country."
Challenges facing sheriffs because of "lax immigration enforcement rules" will be the subject of a press briefing in Bourne Wednesday morning scheduled by Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings. In an advisory, the sheriff's office said Cummings plans to use an inmate at the Barnstable House of Correction as a "specific example" of the challenges.
