FBI Director: Encryption the ‘hardest question I’ve seen’ in gov’t

WASHINGTON (AP) — The policy issues raised in the Justice Department's dispute with Apple Inc. over a locked iPhone represent the "hardest question I've seen in government and it's going to require negotiation and conversation," FBI Director James Comey said Thursday.

"It's really about who do we want to be as a country and how do we want to govern ourselves," Comey told the House Intelligence Committee.

With Senate Democrats planning to caucus Thursday morning before their first full session since the FBI raid on Sen. Brian Joyce's law office, the big question hanging over the gathering will be whether Joyce shows up.

Joyce certainly made it easier on his colleagues when he announced Wednesday that he would not be seeking re-election in November, but that hasn't stopped groups like the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance or the MassGOP from calling for the Milton Democrat's immediate resignation.
