This has been a bad year for conservatives at the ballot box. Washington Republicans and their allies, enabled by chaos in the presidential race, began targeting down-ballot conservatives for defeat. They were highly successful.

Concurrently, the last vestiges of the old tea party movement finally divided between pro-Trump populists and principled conservatives. Unshackled from principle, the populists saw their candidates defeated in elections across the country. Kelli Ward, a hero of pro-Trump populists, went down to defeat in Arizona after her opponents exposed her as a believer in chem-trails.

Pot campaign knocked for fundraising appeal that cited opioid overdoses

STATE HOUSE — A fundraising appeal from the marijuana legalization campaign has drawn the ire of health care professionals and parents of children who died from opioid addiction after the group pitched legal marijuana as an alternative to prescription pain drugs in spite of the state's medical marijuana program.

Will Luzier, the campaign manager for the Yes on 4 ballot drive, sent an email to supporters on Monday highlighting the latest opioid overdose-related death statistics that he said could make 2016 "the deadliest year for opioid overdoses in our state's history."
