Economist Estimates Massachusetts Unemployment Rate at 25 Percent

An economist estimates the currently true unemployment rate of Massachusetts at 25.2 percent.

William M. Rodgers III, a fellow at The Century Foundation, a left-of-center think tank in New York City, a few weeks ago co-authored an article on the foundation's web site projecting coronavirus-related unemployment rates at far higher than what official government statistics have so far reported.

Some 572,562 people filed initial claims for unemployment in Massachusetts between mid-March and the second week of April, according to federal statistics.
