Clinton email probe fraught with political portent

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department will have to decide whether Hillary Clinton or any of her subordinates should face legal consequences for her use of a private email server and her handling of sensitive government information, a decision whose timing is fraught with serious political repercussions.

Even though Attorney General Loretta Lynch has said there is no "artificial deadline" for concluding the investigation, the Obama administration is in the unenviable position of conducting an election-year probe that, no matter the outcome or reassurances to the contrary, will result in grievances about its impact on the presidential election.

BOSTON – A day after saying he wouldn't vote for Donald Trump, a testy Gov. Charlie Baker refused to offer his thoughts on former Gov. Mitt Romney's critique of the bombastic billionaire and the consequences of making him the Republican presidential nominee.

Baker, who had just spoken at White Ribbon Day awareness campaign for domestic violence, said he hadn't watched Romney's Thursday morning speech at the University of Utah, where the 2012 Republican nominee said that if  Trump won the party's nod this year, "the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished."
