‘Bathroom Bill,’ charter schools measure given more time

BOSTON – The so-called Bathroom Bill, a controversial measure to ensure public facilities access to transgender people, and a charter schools measure backed by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker got extended deadlines for legislative action Wednesday, amid what one state senator called "extension mania" as lawmakers sought to keep their proposals alive.

Scores of bills, many of which have been pending before committees for over a year, were on the move in the Legislature as a result of the Wednesday deadline, but lawmakers won extended time limits for many, working around the cutoff.

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of the guns that Mexican officials say was found at the hideout of drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera is associated with Fast and Furious, a failed "gun-walking" operation, according to the Justice Department.

The department said in a letter to members of Congress that a .50-caliber rifle that Mexican officials sent for tracing after Guzman's arrest in January has since been connected to Fast and Furious.
