Wounded Warrior fires execs over spending accusations

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The two top executives of the Wounded Warrior Project have been fired amid allegations of lavish spending practices that ate up as much as half its funds, which mainly come from public donations.
Actions taken by the charitable organization's board of directors aim "to help restore trust in the organization" that began as a shoestring charity providing goodie bags to hospitalized soldiers and became an $800 million fundraising phenomenon.
