Members of a local-government committee in the city of Portland, Maine rejected a free statue offered to them by the owner of the Portland Sea Dogs (a minor-league baseball team) in 2006 because the family of four looked too white to them. Now the statue has become an icon outside the park where the Sea Dogs play.
