Western Massachusetts Colleges Finding Ways To Get What They Want Following U.S. Supreme Court Ruling Barring Affirmative Action

Colleges in western Massachusetts are changing their admissions questions to try to get information they want about applicants without overtly using race to made admissions decisions, as they did before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that practice unconstitutional earlier this summer.

Smith College, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, has added a short-answer question asking applicants what "personal experiences, background, or abilities would you bring to this residential environment to share with your neighbors and what would you hope your neighbors share with you?"

Boston Now Offering Genderless Marriage Certificates, City Announces

People no longer need to put their sex or gender identification on marriage licenses in Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu's office announced Tuesday.

The city's Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ+ Advancement, and the city's Registry Department worked together to make the change.
