Once a working-class Irish neighborhood, South Boston (known as "Southie" to locals) has, in recent years, become a vibrant neighborhood filled with young families and urban professionals. Part of the attraction of Southie is, of course, the easy access to downtown Boston and public transportation. But residents say they were also drawn to Southie by its Irish heritage and strong sense of community.
