Revere resident Juan Jaramillo likely won't be the next state representative from the 19th Suffolk District in Massachusetts, but U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester) praised him nonetheless.
Jaramillo, the Bernie Sanders-endorsed candidate in the race and a former illegal immigrant, came in second place in the Democratic primary for the special election on Tuesday. He received 30 percent of the vote — 6.2 points behind the winner of the race. Former Winthrop Town Council President Jeff Turco, a pro-life Democrat who supported former President Donald Trump in 2016, won the race with 36.2 percent of the vote.
