Walpole High School will no longer use Rebels as its nickname, as Wicked Local reported on Thursday evening.
The Walpole School Committee voted unanimously (7-0) to stop using the nickname. Walpole has been nicknamed the Rebels since 1968, reportedly a reference to the Confederacy.
This September, Republican voters have two choices for who will take on either U.S. Senator Ed Markey or U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III in the state's U.S. Senate race this November.
The GOP primary candidates are Dover attorney Kevin O'Connor and Cambridge scientist Shiva Ayyadurai, who ran as an independent in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race in 2018.
