Vermont Sees Record Mail-In Voting

It's primary day in Vermont for statewide office races, but there have already been many votes cast.

Vermont offered its voters the opportunity to cast votes by U.S. mail, and out of the roughly 490,000 registered voters in the state, more than 104,000 ballots had been returned as of Monday morning, August 10, according to New England Cable News. That means about 21 percent of registered voters voted before the Tuesday, August 11 primary.

Sunrise Western Mass Coalition had endorsed Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse in his bid to unseat U.S. Representative Richard Neal in the Democratic primary for Massachusetts's First Congressional District this September because of Morse's left-wing views, but now that's no longer the case.

The 31-year-old Morse has been subjected to controversy regarding sexual relations he had with college students as young as 18 years old, including some at UMass Amherst where he taught.
