US rabbis outraged by Israeli rabbinical court’s treatment of convert

(RNS) — American and Israeli Jews condemned a decision by Israel's Supreme Rabbinical Court to reject the authority of prominent New York Orthodox rabbi by forcing one of his converts to submit to additional questioning.

Earlier this month the court, which is affiliated with the Chief Rabbinate, rejected the woman's conversion by Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, one of the most respected Modern Orthodox rabbis in the U.S.

Pope taps US religious freedom advocate for Vatican communications team

Vatican City (CNA/EWTN News) — On Wednesday the Vatican released the names of 16 people appointed by Pope Francis to the Vatican's Secretariat for Communications, among whom is American religious freedom and prolife attorney Kim Daniels.

A graduate from Princeton University and the University of Chicago Law School, Daniels is an attorney whose practice is focused on religious freedom and prolife issues, and is also a lay consultant to the USCCB's Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty.
