US planning immigration raids early next year

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Homeland Security Department is planning nationwide raids aimed at deporting adults and children who have already been ordered removed by an immigration judge.

The Washington Post reported in Thursday's editions that the operation from Immigration and Customs Enforcement would begin as soon as next month and would likely affect hundreds of immigrants who fled violence in Central America since the start of 2014.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Post correspondent being held by the Iranian government for more than 500 days has been allowed a Christmas Day visit with his wife and mother.

The mother of Jason Rezaian says in an email to the newspaper that the visit lasted several hours Friday. Mary Rezaian, his mother, and Rezaian's wife, Yeganeh Salehi, received permission for the visit from an Iranian court.
