Shaunna O’Connell Running for Mayor of Taunton

One of the few prominent Republican state legislators on Beacon Hill is planning to run for mayor of Taunton.

State Representative Shaunna O'Connell (R-Taunton) jumped into the race Monday shortly after Governor Charlie Baker nominated the current mayor of Taunton, Thomas Hoye Jr., to serve as interim register of probate in Bristol County, according to State House News Service.

Boston Globe Union Planning Walkout Tuesday, August 6

A union that represents about 300 reporters, editors, and photographers as well as business-side employees of The Boston Globe is planning to walk out of the newsroom at noon Tuesday to protest what the union considers unsatisfactory contract negotiations.

Union members have been working under the terms of a contract that expired seven months ago.
