A public works official near Detroit is worried that toilet flushes at halftime of the Super Bowl may make a sinkhole caused by a broken sewer line worse. One solution is for large numbers of people to hold it.
The superintendent of schools in Portland, Maine sent school affiliates a letter describing an attack on four black students by an adult and then saying he wanted to "take this opportunity to encourage all of us to understand the noxious environment in which this deplorable event took place." The superintendent went on to call President Donald Trump's travel restriction from seven Muslim-majority countries and his planned wall with Mexico "a radical and disturbing departure from the principles on which this country was built and which so many have fought to protect and extend."
