Several Massachusetts towns might institute grocery bag fees soon, if the Massachusetts legislature permits it.
State legislators are considering bills that would allow the towns of Acton, Concord, Fairhaven, Lincoln, and Sudbury to establish check-out bag fees. The bill for Concord allows a 15 cents or higher fee per bag. The rest allow 10 cents or higher. Any fee will be kept by the retailer.
Two bills before the Massachusetts legislature would allow the towns of Gosnold and Westport to change the name of the elected body that oversees day-to-day affairs from the "Board of Selectmen" to "Select Board."
"The members of the selectboard, previously known as selectmen, shall be known as selectboard members," the bill for Gosnold says.
