State Senator Anne Gobi (D-Spencer) is leaving her position later in June to become the rural affairs director in Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey's administration — and two Republicans are vying for the party nomination to run in the special election.
State Representative Peter Durant (R-Spencer), who has represented the Sixth Worcester District since 2011, is running, as NewBostonPost previously reported. Additionally, 24-year-old Rebekah Etique, a paralegal from Leicester, is running, according to the Worcester Telegram. Etique served as the campaign manager for James Amorello, a Holden Republican, when he ran for the seat last year; Amorello's campaign was competitive but lost to Gobi, 54 percent to 46 percent.
President Joe Biden plans to visit Connecticut later this week.
The President is the keynote speaker at the National Safer Communities Summit at the University of Hartford in West Hartford on Friday, June 16, according to WTNH. It is a pro-gun control summit.
