Rhode Island Governor Wants To Ban ‘Assault’ Rifles, Pistols

Rhode Island's governor and attorney general are supporting a bill that would ban what it calls "assault weapons," including certain semiautomatic rifles and pistols.

The bill would prohibit semiautomatic rifles that have "a fixed magazine capacity exceeding 10 rounds" or that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one of several features, including "a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon."

Attleboro Cop Talks Suicidal 21-Year-Old Man Off Ledge

A 32-year veteran of the Attleboro Police Department talked for about 45 minutes with a 21-year-old man intent on jumping from a 70-foot-high roof, eventually persuading the man to climb down a fire truck ladder instead.

The man had been taken by ambulance to a hospital near South Attleboro Square when he escaped from a gurney at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 14, eventually making his way to the roof of a Town Fair Tire, according to The Sun Chronicle, of Attleboro.
