Rhode Island-based Citizens Bank to pay $34.5 million in deposit discrepancy

WASHINGTON (AP) — Citizens Bank has been ordered to pay $34.5 million in refunds and penalties for shortchanging customers on their full deposits.

Federal regulators said Wednesday the Providence, Rhode Island-based bank kept the difference when deposit slips and the actual amount of money transferred didn't match.
