Campbell’s father, Kenneth, is a former college football running back who played for the Tennessee Volunteers. But despite his son’s size — 6-foot-1 in eighth grade and now 6-foot-3 — he never let him play football.

That decision, the Worcester Red Sox outfielder said, helped steer him toward baseball.
