Democrats in the Massachusetts House of Representatives are planning to pass a $250 million increase for the state's emergency shelter system to house more migrants who have entered the country without official status.
The money would be part of a $2.74 billion supplemental budget bill for the state government.
Massachusetts Department of Revenue commissioner Geoffrey Snyder has announced that state government revenue collections for October 2023 totaled $2.558 billion, which is $196 million (or 8.3 percent) more than actual collections in October 2022.
However, the October 2023 figure is $186 million (or 6.8 percent) below the the state's benchmark.
