The bill ostensibly provides a mechanism to take parental rights away from rapists, but lawyer and women's advocate Wendy Murphy says it actually assumes parental rights for rapists and sets a high bar in family court for women who are rape victims to try to disqualify their attackers. Pro-lifers should be outraged by the bill, Murphy says, because women who conceive a child through rape but don't want an abortion may be prodded into getting one to avoid spending years in family court with their rapist.
