A Boston City Council resolution expressing support for Muslim students in the city's public schools puts it in the context of living in a "largely white-Christian-dominated society."
The resolution calls for Boston public schools to provide accommodations so that Muslims can practice their religion during the school day, including times and spaces for prayer, food options that Muslims aren't forbidden to eat, soap and water for Muslims to purify themselves, adequate time for Muslims to make up schoolwork after they observe Muslim holy days, and gym uniforms that allow Muslims to cover their bodies during gym class.
