The Massachusetts Attorney General's office decided that the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge needs $55 million to shore up its finances, so it should be allowed to sell Rockwell paintings to nonprofit museums (not by public auction to the highest bidder) until it reaches that amount. The Attorney General's office got involved because the Rockwell museum is a nonprofit organization, and the point of it is to display the art of Rockwell, some of which it is now planning to sell; the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court must approve the agreement for it to go forward.
"Indigenous Peoples Day" will now be commemorated in October in the western Massachusetts city's schools. "The Europeanization of America led to the largest genocide in our nation's history," said School Committee member Cynthia Taylor, who lamented "false histories" concerning the Italian explorer, according to The Berkshire Eagle.
