New Hampshire House Committee Discusses Secession Amendment

A proposed amendment to the New Hampshire Constitution to secede from the United States was discussed during a public hearing on Friday, January 12.

"The national debt is the greatest national security risk we face," said state Representative Jason Gerhard (R-Northfield-Franklin), the sponsor of the proposed amendment, according to InDepthNH.org.

Amherst town councilors, at their most recent meeting, discussed how they would like to be addressed by their colleagues. The discussion, which took place on Monday, January 8, occurred thanks to a previous rule change allowing councilors to state their preferred title. 

"There's something to be said for distinguishing between the individual and the role," Councilor George Ryan said, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette. "I would make a suggestion that, at least in this body, perhaps a bit of formality would be helpful in the long term."
