A federal appeals court upheld the restriction on anti-abortion protesters, but only because abortion clinics in New Hampshire have never tried to implement the 25-foot buffer zone provided by state law. In June 2014 the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously struck down a similar law in Massachusetts on free speech grounds.
