Museums hand out free passes for Saturday

Museums in Boston and around the state and nation will throw open their doors to the public for free Saturday, but you have to register for tickets first.

The event, Smithsonian Magazine's annual "Museum Day Live!", provides free admission to over 1,000 museums nationwide. There are 57 participating in Massachusetts, including 13 in Boston.

BOSTON – The Alabama Shakes took center stage to mark the end of three-day Boston Calling Festival last night. Britney Howard the lead singer of the band whewed the Boston fans as she belted out her soul-filled songs.

The biannual three-day event, which debuted in 2013, quickly gained a reputation for showcasing a wide variety of popular artists whose music ranges from rock to indie pop. The festival drew tens of thousands of fans over this weekend's run, based on attendance at earlier shows in the series.
