Massachusetts Sees First Human Eastern Equine Encephalitis Case In Four Years

A human recently contracted Eastern equine encephalitis in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced this past weekend.

The person who got it is a male in his 80s who got a mosquito bite in Worcester County, according to a press release from the state's health agency. It is the first reported human case of Eastern equine encephalitis in Massachusetts since 2020.
