Massachusetts Has Lowest Redemption Rate of All Bottle Bill States

When it comes to the 10 states in the country that have bottle bills, Massachusetts stands out.

The Bay State has the lowest redemption rate, at 38 percent of eligible bottles, according to Waste Dive. The Massachusetts five-cent deposit applies to carbonated soft drinks, beer, malt beverages, and sparkling water containers. The fee is 5 cents per bottle — as it has been since 1982.
