Massachusetts Gas Prices Down Over Past Month

Gas prices are down in Massachusetts in recent times.

After reaching $3.59 per gallon around this time last month, gas prices are down 6 cents per gallon in the past month — down to $3.53 per gallon, according to AAA. That's also a drop of 2 cents per gallon in the past week, down from $3.55.

An expert pointed to information published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration as explaining why.

"The latest EIA data shows gasoline demand reached 9.3m barrels a day — the highest level of 2024 to date — the week ahead of the holiday, and numbers from Memorial Day weekend are expected to show strong demand," said Mark Schieldrop, senior spokesman for AAA Northeast, according to a press release. "However, it will take several weeks of strong, sustained demand to put a dent in inventories. Currently, domestic refiners are producing upwards of 10m barrels a day of motor fuels."

"Marching to downtown and chanting, 'Hey, hey, ho, ho, abortion bans have got to go,' the students also held signs, and then formed a circle on the common," the Daily Hampshire Gazette reported in a story published Tuesday, May 28.
