Massachusetts Gaining Migrants While Losing High Earners, Report Says

Massachusetts is seeing a historic surge in migration — but not from within the United States.

While domestic out-migration continues to drain the state of working-age professionals and high-income earners, an influx of foreign migrants is propping up the Bay State’s population growth.

However, this shift raises concerns about the state's long-term economic stability, housing crisis, and tax policies, according to a new report from The Pioneer Institute.

Sad news came this weekend when it was revealed that state Representative Carol Doherty (D-Taunton) died of pancreatic cancer at 82 years old.

Doherty, who represented the Third Bristol District, which includes parts of Taunton and Easton in Bristol County, since July 2020, was a well-liked and well-respected member of the Massachusetts legislature. She was also always friendly and helpful when I interacted with her for NewBostonPost, as a mutual friend introduced us when she was running for state representative five years ago.
