BOSTON (AP) — Denna Laing, the professional women's hockey player who has been hospitalized with severe spinal damage since crashing into the boards during an exhibition before the NHL Winter Classic, said that the injury didn't spoil "the best day of my life."

"We made history that day and I would never take those moments back," she wrote in a Facebook post, accompanied by a dozen pictures of her and her teammates trying on her Winter Classic gear and taking the ice at Gillette Stadium.

NEW YORK (AP) — David Bowie, the other-worldly musician who broke pop and rock boundaries with his creative musicianship, nonconformity, striking visuals and a genre-spanning persona he christened Ziggy Stardust, died of cancer Sunday. He was 69 and had just released a new album.

Bowie, whose hits included "Fame," "Heroes" and "Let's Dance," died "peacefully" and was surrounded by family, representative Steve Martin said early Monday. The singer had fought cancer for 18 months.
