A Democratic candidate for state representative from Martha's Vineyard has expressed support for abolishing prisons.
Arielle Reid Faria, a Democrat from West Tisbury, said in 2020 that prisons should be abolished. She is now running for state representative in the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and the next four in line behind her are planning to be out of state much of next week, likely leaving state auditor Diana DiZoglio in charge as acting governor.
Neither Healey nor DiZoglio would directly confirm that apparent fact when asked by MassLive.com, but the math seems to work out that way.
