Markey Votes ‘Present’ On His Own Green New Deal Resolution; Says United States Must Lead To Get China and India To Follow

U.S. Senator Ed Markey followed through on his decision not to vote for his own Green New Deal resolution on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, voting "present" instead.

A procedural vote to take up the resolution failed 0-57, with 43 senators voting present. All 53 Republicans voted no. Three Democrats voted no, all in Republican-leaning states:  U.S. Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Doug Jones of Alabama, and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.

Opponents of thin-film plastic bags used at grocery stores and drug stores are trying to ban them statewide and impose a 10-cent fee on other types of bags, too.

In recent years some individual towns and cities in Massachusetts have banned thin-film plastic bags through Town Meeting or the city council, and some have not.
